A Closer Look
Dry Weight
A short explanation you can bring into the conversation with your care team.
What it generally means
Dry weight, often called target weight, is an estimate your dialysis care team uses when thinking about fluid balance and where your weight may be after treatment.
Why it can change
It is not simply your usual body weight. Your care team may reassess the target over time using your treatment history, symptoms, exam findings, and other clinical information.
Bring it back to the conversation.
If your recovery, swelling, cramping, breathing, or how you feel after treatment seems different, write down what you noticed and bring that information to your care team.

For general education and personal reference. Your dialysis team determines and adjusts your treatment plan and target weight.
